Another snippet from Television Parts.
Okay. THIS one was my *absolute* favorite one of all.
Zootcomewitpotatoes!
Did you know the famous "Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey" started on this show and *not* on SNL? Trufax!
And, yes, Michael Nesmith saying, "Disneyland burned down!" was funnier than "Jack Handey" saying it. Nesmith just had the better delivery.

Irish Language Lessons. Man, it's been too long!
I'll have to dig out my tapes, too.
Groovy avatar. Galaxy Quest?
In April 1984, National Lampoon published the first of Jack Handey's Deep Thoughts. Additional Deep Thoughts appeared in the October and November 1984 editions as well as in the short-lived comedy magazine Army Man, while more appeared in 1988 in The New Mexican.
Handey's work next showed up in the Mike Nesmith film, Doctor Duck's Super Secret All-Purpose Sauce, in the format which would later become famous on Saturday Night Live (though narrated by Nesmith).
Then SNL.
The "film" Wikipedia mentions was a compilation of bits from the summer replacement series "Television Parts" aired in 1985.
That article on Wikipedia has some errors, too (for instance, it says there wer no music videos by Nesmith on the Dr. Duck compilation which is not true -- there is at least one unless my brain is failing me... and then I'll have to sacrifice and rewatch my ancient VHS tape to check).
I can't find the Ed Begley bit *anywhere* He was Pope Brad, the first Surfer Pontiff.
And Wiki's shortcomings notwithstanding, there is no Nez video on Dr. Duck's. He sings "One Ton Tomato" and the awesome closing title track (never released on CD, darn it), but the videos are Jim Stafford, Rosanne Cash, Jimmy Buffett, and the Coyote Sisters (and the Martin Mull w/some woman who looks really familiar).
